Imagine a guy who has lived his entire life based on decisions taken by his parents. Come to think of it, he's not living his life, but his parent's expectations. And then comes a girl who opens his eyes and shows him what he's missing out on. EK MAIN AUR EKK TU is more of a coming-of-age story, essentially. Intrinsically, EK MAIN AUR EKK TU may be a rom-com, but it's not anything that you may have witnessed on the Bollywood screen earlier. On the whole, EK MAIN AUR EKK TU is a slick, breezy and pleasant fare that should click with its target audience -- the youth -- and also has the potential to woo the older spectators as well. This take on love is refined, smart, lively and thoroughly pleasing thanks to its characters, conversations and the inherent humor. A perfect date movie. A film stuffed with exquisite moments that are sure to bring a wide smile on your face. Simply put, you cannot afford to miss EK MAIN AUR EKK TU. Just go for it!
What's Good: The performances; the entertaining second half; the songs. What's Bad: The lack of universality of the script which will find less appreciation among the masses. Verdict: Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu is an entertaining and enjoyable fare for the city audience. Loo break: None really. Watch or Not?: Watch it for the performances and the clever handling of a different story.
EMAET is neither on the epic side like Dharma Productions' great, grand ancestors nor weighed down by an overload of pop culture references of those that define the genre. Instead the confection's appeal lies in its underplayed wit, quirky within plausibility protagonists and a refreshing disregard for conventional conclusions. EMAET's endearing, unassuming quality and refusal to take the run-of-the-mill route, like Dharma's Wake Up Sid , makes it a much better film than I expected to see. What's more? It's barely two hours.
What's Good: The performances; a few light-hearted scenes; the sensitivity with which the subject has been handled. What's Bad: The screenplay which leaves a lot to be desired; the leisurely pace of the narrative; the boring first few reels. Verdict: Staying Alive is a sensitive film but it will find the going tough. Loo break: A couple in the first few reels. Watch or Not?: Watch it because it is a well-intentioned effort.
Star cast: Chandan Roy Sanyal, Yuki Ellias, Suhasini Mulay, Kallol Banerjee, Nicholas Brown, Sheeba Chadha. What's Good: The performances. What's Bad: The uninteresting script. Verdict: Love You To Death will get a quick burial at the box-office. Loo break: Several. Watch or Not?: Watch it for the performances but beware of the fact that, as a whole, the film does not work.
Though corruption is a much abused, oft-repeated and oft-depicted theme in Bollywood, what sets GALI GALI CHOR HAI apart is that it incorporates the recent incidents in the narrative. It's relatable and the characters, identifiable. But what could've been a hard-hitting statement against corruption mellows after a point. This happens in the post-interval portions, when things begin to look impractical and ineffectual. On the whole, GALI GALI CHOR HAI amuses intermittently. Fortunately, the movie goes public at a juncture when anti-corruption appears to be the essence of the season. But the film could've done with a far more hard-hitting conclusion!
What's Good: A few satirical scenes; the entertaining dialogues; the acting. What's Bad: The small-town feel of the film; the lack of real entertainment for the city audience of today; the over-stretching of the drama; the lack of a proper climax. Verdict: Gali Gali Chor Hai will not get the appreciation of the audience. Given its poor start, it cannot hope to pick up, due to lack of positive word of mouth. Loo break: Not really. Watch or Not?: Watch it if you want to see a well-intentioned film which also boasts of good performances.
It's Hrithik Roshan who redefines this Agneepath. He plays the character without the flourish that Bachchan brought, turning him into a ruthless machine for revenge, yet shouldering layers of hurt, pain and rage that make you match step with him on his journey.I'm going with three out of five for director Karan Malhotra's Agneepath. It is in the end, an old-fashioned revenge drama treated in that melodramatic, over-the-top style. You're not likely to be bored by the intense action and the solid performances, but prepare to be exhausted by just how long this film plays on.
AGNEEPATH is an uncomplicated story of revenge, is hard-hitting yet entertaining, dwells on strong emotions and aggressive and forceful action, yet is dissimilar from the original. Most Hindi films initiate with a bang, but run out of gas by the time they reach the finale, often getting deflated in between as well, but AGNEEPATH is vigorous from the very commencement to the absolute conclusion. The conflict at the very initiation and also towards the closing stages, the tension between Vijay and Kancha and also between Vijay and his mother, the game of one-upmanship played by Vijay to grab power… AGNEEPATH is one exhilarating ride. A vendetta story needs to be garnished with several terrific dramatic moments and Malhotra does just that. His handling of the subject deserves brownie points. The only 'hiccup', if one may say so, is the romantic track towards the first hour, which is lackluster. On the whole, AGNEEPATH is a fitting tribute to the masterwork.
New Agneepath take an altogether fresh approach to its 22-year-old source. Remakes, however, are a slippery territory. They invite inevitable comparison and yet aspire for an exclusive identity. Moreover what can possibly work in place of Bachchan and his trademarks in an old hat plot riding on themes like Baap ka badla and Maa-bahen ki izzat? The answer is two massive, hysterical villains. Dharma Productions' Agneepath redux, to be fair, belongs to Rishi Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt .Like its original, Agneepath is loud and lengthy revenge sage. And while not as blood-soaked or explicit, it bombards the screen with its escalated, larger-than-life tone, vivid colours and robust imagery. The weaknesses of the original are the failings of this one too -- songs, women and Gaitonde. To me, that's exactly how Agneepath works, less of a remake, more of a tribute. They should have just called it Dharmapath.
Written and directed by Puja Jatinder Bedi, this staggeringly silly film has a plot so convoluted and far-fetched, you'll be rolling your eyes more than the ghosts in this film do.The film doesn't have any good scares to speak of, just lots of bad dialogue and a laughable background score.Ghost isn't even one of those films that's so bad, it's fun to watch. No, it's utterly and entirely painful and tiring to sit through, because every inconsequential detail is repeated over and over again, and all that the characters in this film do is state the obvious.I'm going with a generous half out of five, yes half out of five for Ghost. 'Ghost' is a staggeringly silly film...
The problem with GHOST is that the scares are scarce, despite some twists and turns injected in the plotline. Regrettably, the story goes for a toss thanks to the interrupting song and dance routine [with autopilot choreography], the listless romantic track between the lead pair [looks completely forced in the narrative] and a patchy screenplay.GHOST boasts of a couple of spine-tingling scary scenes, but a few spooky scenes does not a horror film make. On the whole, the scares in GHOST are inadequate and ineffectual. One expected so much more from the scary movie.
Ghost is the kind of film you should never watch alone. Not because it will spook you but for the only reason that mazaa toh sab ke saath aata hain! Fun is always multiplied when shared with friends and Ghost belongs to that genre of unintentionally funny films that enjoy cult status with connoisseurs of, what one may call as, accidental entertainment.Coming back to its original fan-club, Ghost is killer stuff in the unintentionally funny zone. Just ensure you have likeminded company and be prepared to laugh like hell!
PLAYERS rides mainly on the clout of its credible director duo [Abbas-Mustan], daredevil stunts and stunning visuals. But, most importantly, it is deficient of a captivating screenplay. Also, the film could have done with judicious trimming for an enhanced impact. I for one went in with colossal expectations, but came out feeling downcast and disheartened.
What's Good: The train robbery sequence; some comedy in the second half; Omi Vaidya and Neil Nitin Mukesh's acting. What's Bad: The loose and uninteresting screenplay; the poor music; the dull acting of Abhishek, Sonam and Bobby. Verdict: All that glitters is not gold. This gold rush adventure will not see people rushing to the cinemas. Loo break: Several, especially after interval. Watch or Not ? : Watch it for the stylised shooting.
DON 2 is SRK's best action movie to date. You cannot tell what Don's next move would be. As the reels unfold, you realize that he's cold blooded. You can't mess with him. He's dangerous to deal with. He has an agenda. Ditto for Roma [Priyanka Chopra], who shares a tumultuous relationship with Don. It's a cat and mouse chase.
What's Good: The engaging post-interval portion, Shah Rukh Khan's endearing performance; the canvas; the stylised acting and narration; the revelation of the suspense. What's Bad: The slow-paced first half; the technical details in the drama which will confuse a section of the audience; the music; the boring portions which spring up at several places. Verdict: Don 2 is a winner. It will score at the box-office and yield good profits to all concerned. Loo break: A couple in the first half. Watch or Not?: Definitely watch it for Shah Rukh Khan's performance and the stylised narration.
Don 2 is nicely shot, and there are moments where Shah Rukh Khan is riveting. But that's not enough to hold your interest for well over two hours...even the actor's most loyal fans will find themselves yawning. I'm going with a generous two out of five for director Farhan Akhtar's Don 2. Although packed with fast cars and bikes, this is one slow ride.
