Arnold Schwarzenegger returns to the big screen with The Last Stand, but does the Governator still have enough star power for a box office hit? In his first leading role since 2003's Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, Schwarzenegger makes his triumphant return to Hollywood in the role of Sheriff Ray Owens who fights, stunts and shoots his way through problems encountered when he and his crew have to ward off a dangerous drug lord making his way through their sleepy bordertown, en route to flee the country. The Last Stand is exactly what most viewers would expect from an Arnold Schwarzenegger movie. It's action-packed, full of one-liners and some might say, a little corny. But The Last Stand is definitely entertaining, and it's great to see one of the all-time action greats do what he does best, kick ass....even at age 65. Viewers will be surprised at how much comedy makes its way into the script, as Johnny Knoxville's eccentric character provides comedic situations interspersed between intense chase and action scenes. And Forest Whitaker, Luis Guzman, and Jamie Alexander each gave great performances as their respective roles as Agent John Bannister, Figgy, and Sarah Torrance. The Last Stand also marks director Kim Ji-woon's American debut, the man behind The Good, The Bad, The Weird, a South Korean Western film that was received positively by audiences and critics when it hit the film festival circuit back in 2008. Overall, this movie may not make your list of best films of the year, but it is what it is: a fun action flick, that Schwarzenegger fans are bound to love. The Last Stand hits theaters January 18th, so leave a comment and let us know if it's a movie you plan on seeing, and what you think of it when you do. -- Published on January 17, 2013
